KISMET Lore Dump: Due to the limited sunlight and lack of space with which to grow food, individuals living in the Verge have long supplemented their diet with manufactured nutritional matter (sometimes abbreviated to "NM" or simply "Nooch").  NM comes in a wide variety of forms and flavors--though all variants are created with shelf-stability and portability in mind.  One common form of NM is a solid bar, easily broken up and stirred into a soup or sauce (or if one is truly out of options, consumed directly without any other additives).  The taste is typically manufactured to be neutral and inoffensive, though more discerning palates might complain about its impact on the flavor or texture of the other ingredients in the meal.

Author's note: if NM existed in real life I'm pretty sure I would happily subsist off of it for most of my meals 🤣
